Intel launches new Xeon W-3300 Processors to counter AMD’s Threadripper

Intel, today, has announced their new Xeon W-3300 processors to counter AMD’s Threadripper processors that are gaining tremendous popularity in the HEDT market. These CPUs will be available from today from its system integrator partners.

Built for advanced workstation professionals, Intel Xeon W-3300 processors offer uncompromised performance, expanded platform capabilities, and enterprise-grade security and reliability in a single-socket solution.

These are based on Ice Lake architecture and so will have a lot of modern features like Thunderbolt 4 support, Intel® AVX-512 instruction support and a lot more. It is totally targeted towards high-performance users who need more cores yet need all the Intel goodness you see on a desktop or mobile CPUs.

Intel even claims that its new Xeon W-3300 processors, specifically the Intel Xeon W-3365, which is a 32 core chip are up to 27% faster than AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX processors, which is quite a bold claim honestly. This launch comes just prior to AMD’s launch of next-gen Zen 3 based Threadripper processors which will launch very soon.

Why It Matters: The Intel Xeon W-3300 processors are designed for next-gen professional applications with heavily threaded, input/output-intensive workloads. Use cases stretch across artificial intelligence (AI), architecture, engineering, construction (AEC), and media and entertainment (M&E). With a new processor core architecture to transform the efficiency and advanced technologies to support data integrity, Intel Xeon W-3300 processors are equipped to deliver uncompromising workstation performance.
