Intel CPUs report the highest share for the entire year 2021, and it’s all due to Alder Lake

Intel’s 12th Gen Alder Lake Desktop CPUs are finally off to a promising start, with the highest share at Germany’s largest retail outlet, MindFactory, since the beginning of 2021, but AMD continues to lead the overall share.

According to the most recent report provided on Reddit by Ingeborg, Intel has finally surpassed the under 30% market share it has held since the debut of AMD’s Ryzen 3000 and Ryzen 5000 CPU lineups. Due to the debut of Alder Lake and discounts on other 11th and 10th Gen CPUs, Intel’s Alder Lake CPUs earned their greatest market share of 30%.

The Intel range was unveiled in the first week of November, and while there are no severe CPU or motherboard shortages, there is still a significant DDR5 memory shortage, which is causing some customers to delay their Alder Lake upgrades.

Intel Core & AMD Ryzen Desktop CPU Sales / Revenue Chart (Image Credits: Ingebor):

According to the study, AMD Ryzen Desktop CPUs continue to have a commanding lead of over 70% of all CPUs sold in November (Total over 15,000 units). The most popular chips of the lot were the Ryzen 7 5800X and Ryzen 5 5600X, and even the Ryzen 9 5900X had a fair share, more than any Intel CPU, and this is a $500 US+ chip we’re talking about.

Intel CPUs, on the other hand, accounted for only 30% of all CPUs sold (over 5000 units), but it is a big triumph for Intel given that they had hardly broken through 5000 units before to Alder Lake. The Core i7-12700K and Core i5-12600K appear to have been among the most popular Intel CPUs last month.

In terms of revenue split, AMD CPUs accounted for nearly 5 million Euros in sales due to a huge number of sales, whereas Intel CPUs accounted for 2 million Euros in sales. Intel CPUs improved by one spot, while AMD’s Ryzen 9 5950X dropped by five slots. The Intel Core i5-10400 lost eight spots, while the Core i5-11400 dropped seven.

This may be owing to the impending Core i5-12400F, which will provide significantly higher performance at a comparable price. The Ryzen 7 3800X jumped six spots thanks to significant price decreases on the chip, which was previously priced between $250 and $300 US at various retailers.

In terms of overall sales volume, Intel’s Alder Lake CPUs accounted for 37%, followed by Rocket Lake (34%), and Comet Lake (28%). Vermeer Ryzen 5000 CPUs account for 68 percent of sales, while Cezanne (Ryzen 5000G) and Matisse (Ryzen 3000) each account for 15% and 14% of sales. This is a significant step forward for Intel, but there is still a long way to go. As DDR5 memory becomes more widely available and Alder Lake becomes available on more popular platforms like the future Non-K lineup with B660 and H610 motherboards, sales will improve even more. AMD, on the other hand, is gearing up to reclaim the market from Intel early next year.
