TeamAU overclocked Intel’s Core i9-14900K CPU to 8 GHz, resulting in over 1300 FPS in Counter-Strike 2. The experience of seeing high-end overclocking piques the curiosity of the enthusiast community, owing to the fact that the performance squeezed out frequently exceeds the values established by prior world records.

Similarly, at SXSW Sydney, Team AU Overclocking was able to harness the power of Intel’s flagship 14th-generation “Raptor Lake Refresh” CPU, the Core i9-14900K, resulting in frame rates exceeding four digits in the recently-released Counter-Strike 2.

Such performance is difficult to achieve and necessitates “excessive” use of liquid nitrogen. Roger Chandler, VP and GM of Intel’s Enthusiast PC and Workstation, Client Computing Group, dumped the first batch of liquid nitrogen onto the test bench to increase the buzz surrounding the project. The presence of Intel at the event is fantastic to see because it not only demonstrates the company’s dedication to the overclocking community but also serves as a way to “officially” acknowledge an accomplishment, in this case the FPS milestone.

Team AU Overclocking used an Intel Core i9-14900K CPU, an accomplishment in and of itself, which comes with a native 6 GHz turbo frequency. However, the CPU was overclocked up to 8 GHz in order to extract the most performance, which produced 1310 FPS at CS2. Counter-Strike 2 may not seem like a hard game at all, but it has excellent support for high FPS targets, which is why it leads the pack in game overclocking scenarios. Because the game is more “CPU dependent,” CS2 can handle high clock speeds.
