Intel’s Core i9-13900K outperforms its Core i9-12900K in early Benchmark Results

In a video review, a rumoured Intel Core i9-13900K qualification sample (QS) processor has shown off its prowess in a few PC games. One of the best CPUs is expected to be the flagship Raptor Lake chip. The game selection included the most popular gaming genres and styles of the day while still providing a basic introduction.

Players using these processors and the best graphics cards will likely prefer to play at the highest quality settings. Only 3–6% faster than its Alder Lake predecessor in these circumstances is the new Raptor Lake QS processor. However, be aware that this is only a qualifying sample and that it appears to have a high peak power consumption.

A few days ago, the first legitimate video review of an Intel Core i9-13900K QS processor appeared online. In comparison to an Intel Core i9-12900KF (the iGPU-less version of the Core i9-12900K) on the same platform, it focused on synthetic and application benchmarks. It was a significant development in the string of leaks that have been slowly revealing the Raptor Lake flagship processor over the past few weeks. The most important finding was that the next-generation flagship gave an average performance improvement of 10% for single-threaded workloads and 35% for multi-threaded tasks.

Extreme Player, a Bilibili-based TechTuber, has published a gaming-focused review of Core i9-13900K as a follow-up.

To give a more concise and understandable picture of the performance comparisons across the entire spectrum of games, Twitter tech detective Harukaze5791(opens in a new tab) has taken the entire batch of results from the video (rather than tabulating games individually).

Using a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti to enable the processors to operate at their full capacity represented a considerable departure from Extreme Player’s synthetic/app testing. The specifications were the same as in the last video aside from that.

In addition to offering benchmarks for game performance, Extreme Player also compiled some interesting data on peak power usage. Sometimes using significantly more power than its Alder Lake predecessor, the Core i9-13900K processor. The games that gained the highest framerate when using the newer CPU did not coincide with those that had the largest inter-generational peak power consumption difference. For instance, the speed improvements brought about by the 13th Gen Intel Core processors were quite limited for the gaming title Horizon Zero Dawn.

These are intriguing findings for PC players to consider. However, it’s important to keep in mind a few things: this is a supposed QS testing processor, and the outcomes are in doubt. Asus (or MSI) currently only offers one BIOS that supports 13th generation Core processors, and it is noted as “for boot only and is not suited for performance testing.”
