Intel Confirms AI Roadmap Progress Amid Restructuring Challenges: Falcon Shores and Gaudi GPUs on Track

Intel‘s AI roadmap will remain unaffected by the company’s “harshly implemented” restructuring policy, with Team Blue confirming that both Falcon Shores and Gaudi GPUs are on track for development.

Intel is not only staring down one of its worst-ever financial quarters in history, it’s mulling a less-certain future lineup of consumer and client chips after making deep spending cuts to help recoup losses. Nevertheless, Intel has also written to reassure stakeholders that its existing and upcoming AI GPU lines will go unscathed by these changes, instead pointing to his accelerator portfolio in terms of optimism.

More About the Intel’s AI Roadmap

An Intel spokesperson confirmed to HPCWire that the Falcon Shores and Gaudi AI GPU lineups are moving ahead as planned. Noteworthy is that Intel expects a lot of benefits for its business from its AI roadmap across its client, edge and data center product lines globally — which is why many other projects are going ahead as planned.

As a refresher, Falcon Shores AI GPUs are planned to be a “pivotal” product for Intel in the AI marketplace. Unlike Eagle Stream, Team Blue is reportedly all-in with TSMC this time around for production and it has paned out well with the upcoming meteor lake SoCs. With Falcon Shores, Intel is aiming for an aggressive product strategy and targeting different clients rather than focusing on a narrow range of products.

In terms of specifications, Falcon Shores will be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process and CoWoS-R packaging, with a reported thermal design power (TDP) of 1500W. These features are similar to NVIDIA’s Blackwell products, making Falcon Shores a competitive option in terms of computing power.

Additionally, Intel is aligning its AI portfolio with industry leaders, particularly NVIDIA. For instance, Intel’s newly launched Xeon 6 “Granite Rapids” SKUs are currently being tested alongside NVIDIA’s AI accelerators. This strategy aims to help Team Blue tap into mainstream markets and potentially revitalize its data center business.
