Intel Arrow Lake-S & Arrow Lake-HX CPUs: Enhanced Cache and AI Performance Unveiled

intel‘s Arrow Lake-S and Arrow Lake HX CPUs are expected to be launched in the first half of 2024 with a new cache infrastructure compared to Lunar Lake CPU specifications as follow up product after Raptor Lake will significantly increase AI TOPs. That said, leaker @Jaykihn has posted an extensive breakdown of these premium chips and how they will compare to their predecessors – the Raptor Lake-S CPUs as well as the refreshed Raptor Lake-HX.

More About the Intel Arrow Lake-S & Arrow Lake-HX CPUs

The latest Info says Arrow Lake will borrow much of the same cache configuration seen on Lunar Lake, utilizing Lion Cove P-Cores and Skymont E-Cores. A few differences do exist, such as the changes in L2 and L3 cache sizes. The P-Cores will have 3 MB (12-way) of L2 cache per core and the E-Core cluster of which there are four cores in total will utilize a 4-MB (16-way) shared L2 cache. Lion Cove P-Cores will have 3 MB of L3 cache and Skymont E-Core clusters will also pack in 3 MB of L3.

Arrow Lake processors will come in either an 8+16 or 6+8 SKU so there are two main dies. The top die configuration has up to 36 MB of L3 cache and a total cache pool, combining in at 76 MB is claimed to be higher by 12% compared with Raptor Lake-S/HX CPUs. The 6+8 setup, meanwhile, allows for up to 24 MB of L3 cache with a total pool of around 50MB worth of caches combined – roughly about +13.5% more than what the Raptor Lake-S 6+8 configuration would offer.

In terms of AI capabilities, the Arrow Lake CPUs will see a significant boost, with GPU TOPS increasing from 3 TOPS on Raptor Lake to 9 TOPS with the newer Xe architecture. The integrated NPU is rated at 13 TOPS, and the CPU itself will offer 15 TOPS, resulting in a combined 37 AI TOPS, comparable to the Ryzen 8000G “Hawk Point” APUs. Other enhancements in this release consist of PCIe Hot-Plug support, extended ESPI device implementations as well the newly added I3C interfaces.
