Intel launches its best ever gaming CPU – the Core i9-9900KS that allows overclocking all its 8 cores to 5GHz boost frequency
At the Computex 2019, apart from launching the new 10th generation Ice Lake CPUs based on 10nm process, Intel expanded its desktop portfolio by adding a new member to its family – the 9th generation Core i9-9900KS.
Intel previously showcased a 28-core Xeon processor, during its keynote last year, that can run all of its cores at 5 GHz. Now, with the Intel Core i9-9900KS, this is now achievable which in itself is a landmark to achieve for a desktop CPU.
The CPU promises to deliver the same boost frequency in both single core performance as well as multi-core workloads which was lacking on the previous best i9-9900K.
The Core i9-9900KS is a 8 core & 16 threads processor with a base frequency of 4.0 GHz. It has a RAM frequency support of 2666MHz and packs in the same UHD 630 iGPU seen on its brothers.
Intel 9th Gen Core 8-Core CPUs | Cores | Base Freq | All-Core Turbo | Single Core Turbo Freq | IGP | DDR4 | TDP | Price (1ku) |
i9-9900KS | 8 / 16 | 4.0 GHz | 5.0 GHz | 5.0 GHz | UHD 630 | 2666 | ? | ? |
i9-9900K | 8 / 16 | 3.6 GHz | 4.7 GHz | 5.0 GHz | UHD 630 | 2666 | 95 W | $488 |
i9-9900KF | 8 / 16 | 3.6 GHz | 4.7 GHz | 5.0 GHz | – | 2666 | 95 W | $488 |
i7-9700K | 8 / 8 | 3.6 GHz | 4.6 GHz | 4.9 GHz | UHD 630 | 2666 | 95 W | $374 |
i7-9700KF | 8 / 8 | 3.6 GHz | 4.6 GHz | 4.9 GHz | – | 2666 | 95 W | $374 |
The Core i9-9900KS can also be used on the same motherboards as the Core i9-9900K used to fit in with just a firmware update.
The TDP and the pricing of this CPU has not been revealed yet, but at the Computex keynote Intel SVP and GM Gregory Bryant has confirmed that the processor is launching in Q4 of this year.
