Intel Alder Lake-P mobile CPUs have started to ship for laptop integration

Intel released its Alder Lake-S desktop CPUs earlier this month amid much excitement surrounding the line-up. Intel reclaimed the gaming crown from AMD by introducing two of the greatest CPUs for gaming, the Core i9-12900K and Core i5-12600K, as well as support for DDR5 memory and the PCIe 5.0 interface.

In a tweet this morning, Intel stated that its next Alder Lake-P mobile CPUs are now shipping to customers for integration into laptops.

The manufacturer didn’t go into much detail regarding Alder Lake-mile-P’s milestone, but it did say in a tweet, “Congratulations to our Intel teams throughout the world for their hard work & commitment in delivering this product.”

According to sources, Alder Lake-P will be available in two primary core configurations. Two Golden Cove Performance (P) cores and eight Gracemont Efficiency (E) cores will be found in lower-end SKUs. However, higher-end SKUs are also said to include six P-cores and eight E-cores. As a result, Alder Lake-P will have a maximum of 14 cores and 20 threads, compared to Alder Lake-16 S’s cores and 24 threads.

Early benchmarks of the Core i7-12700H Alder Lake-P CPU were leaked to the internet around two weeks ago via unannounced Gigabyte Aero 5 XE and Hewlett-Packard Omen 17 notebooks. According to rumours, the CPU has a base frequency of 2.7 GHz and a turbo clock of 4.6 GHz.

Early Geekbench single-threaded performance results for these prototypes showed that the Core i7-12700H fell far short of outperforming the current-generation Core i7-11700H. However, the former’s multi-threaded performance left the latter (and the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H) in the dirt.

Of course, these are synthetic benchmarks using probably unoptimized hardware, so it will be interesting to see how things play out when PCs with Alder Lake-P begin shipping.
