The Geekbench leak has brought to light Intel’s 14th Gen Core i5-14450HX laptop CPU, which is positioned as an entry-level SKU within the Raptor Lake refresh family, specifically catering to the gaming laptop segment. The Raptor Lake-HX Refresh CPUs, designed primarily for gaming purposes while also offering productivity and content creation capabilities, are part of Intel’s alternative lineup to the mainstream and low-power targeted Meteor Lake CPUs.

All About the Intel 14th Gen Core i5-14450HX

Distinct from Meteor Lake, the 14th Gen HX lineup emphasizes more cores, higher clock speeds, premium cooling solutions, and discrete graphics support. Although the HX lineup doesn’t have an AI NPU, like Meteor Lake it focuses on delivering gaming performance, which currently doesn’t see benefits from such features.

14th Gen Core i5-14450HX

Lets delve into the specifications of the Intel Core i5 14450HX CPU. It boasts a 10-core design with 6 P Cores and 4 E Cores offering a base clock speed of 2.6 GHz that can boost up to 4.8 GHz. This chip is used in the Colorful M15 (2024) laptop, which also packs 16 GB of DDR5 5600 memory and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 GPU. Additionally, it comes with a 20 MB of L3 cache.

While this CPU does include an onboard iGPU featuring 32 Execution Units based on the Xe graphics architecture it’s worth noting that Intel hasn’t introduced its Xe LPG architecture to their high-end HX lineup yet. This could potentially enhance iGPU performance in models. Intel might consider incorporating iGPUs into their HX series as competitors, like AMD introduce premium SKUs that support core counts and larger GPUs on the same chip as seen in their upcoming Strix Point and Fire Range HX series.

When it comes to performance the Intel Core i5 14450HX CPU provides a boost of 200 MHz compared to the Core i5 13450HX. This is expected to result in improvements, in performance although it’s likely to be 5%. The Core i5 14450HX is targeted toward laptop gamers and its success will highly depend on its pricing especially considering the competition, from the AMD Dragon Range HX lineup and the upcoming launch of the next-generation Fire Range HX series.
