WTC Final: Some draws feel like defeats. This one did. India let a golden opportunity to sweep Sri Lanka slip away after Dinesh Chandimal’s centurion partner Sonal Dinusha rescued the hosts in Colombo, leaving Shubman Gill’s side with a genuinely uphill climb toward the World Test Championship final.

## Where India Stand Now

Despite winning the two-match series 1-0 thanks to their victory in Galle, India missed out on a full 24-point haul from the drawn Colombo Test. That result leaves India fifth on the WTC 2025-27 points table with 68 points from 11 Tests, their Points Percentage dropping to 51.22 — behind Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Bangladesh.

## WTC Final: The Standings

| Position | Team | PCT |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Australia | 80.00 |
| 2 | South Africa | 75.00 |
| 3 | New Zealand | 72.22 |
| 4 | Bangladesh | 55.56 |
| 5 | India | 51.22 |

## What India Need to Do for the WTC Final?

With only seven Tests remaining, all against New Zealand (2 away) and Australia (5 at home), India’s path narrows sharply. A clean sweep of all seven would lift their total to 152 points and a 70.37% PCT — strong, but still not a guaranteed spot given how other results could play out.

## The Scenarios

| Result | Final PCT |
| --- | --- |
| 7 wins, 0 losses | 70.37% |
| 6 wins, 1 loss | 64.81% |
| 5 wins, 2 draws | 61.11% |
| 5 wins, 2 losses | 59.26% |

## Why It Matters

India have historically struggled in New Zealand and were swept 3-0 at home by the Black Caps last time out, making the upcoming two-Test tour a genuine litmus test before hosting Australia in early 2027.
