India’s First Women’s Pro Basketball League: Six Teams, 72 Athletes, and One Goal

Basketball enthusiasts, here’s some exciting news for you! Elite Pro Basketball has recently announced the launch of the Elite Women’s Pro Basketball League, India’s first-ever women’s basketball league. With the league’s tryout scheduled to take place between March 17 to 20 at the Noida Indoor Stadium, the league aims to provide budding hoopsters of the country an opportunity to rub shoulders with some big names in a 5X5 Pro Basketball League featuring six teams.

  1. Six teams, 72 athletes: The Elite Women’s Pro Basketball League will have six teams featuring 72 talented athletes from across India. This platform aims to showcase their skills, provide equal opportunity and give them a chance to make a career out of playing basketball.
  2. Tryout details: The tryouts for the league will take place between March 17 to 20, 2023, at the Noida Indoor Stadium, where players from across the country can participate and showcase their skills.
  3. Aiming to elevate the game: The CEO of the Elite Women’s Pro Basketball League, Sunny Bhandarkar, expressed his excitement for the league and his commitment to elevating the game of basketball in India. “Our aim is to elevate the game of basketball in India and create job opportunities for the youth in India. It’s unfortunate that the people who have been in charge of growing the sport never created such opportunities for basketball players,” he said.
  4. Supported by investors: The Elite Women’s Pro Basketball League is supported by a pool of investors in the United States of America. With their backing, the league hopes to provide more job opportunities for the youth and create a pathway for India to become a gold medal winner in the Olympics.
  5. Expansion of men’s league: Meanwhile, the Elite Pro Basketball men’s league has added four new teams, taking the total to 16 sides. The expansion of teams gives more players a chance to turn pro, with the new teams being Nagpur Knights, Goa Saints, Surat Diamonds, and Eastern Tigers.
