Semicon India 2025: Global Platform Launch
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates SEMICON India 2025 on September 2nd, reinforcing the government’s commitment to positioning India as a global semiconductor powerhouse. The exhibition features nearly 350 exhibitors from across the global semiconductor value chain, including six country roundtables and four country pavilions.
“Our aim is to make India one of the top five semiconductor nations by 2032,” declared Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, setting clear national objectives for the semiconductor ecosystem.
Strategic Project Approvals Drive Growth
The government has approved 10 projects in strategic areas including high-volume fabrication units (Fabs), 3D heterogeneous packaging, compound semiconductors (including Silicon Carbide), and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSATs) facilities.
Electronics and IT Secretary S. Krishnan confirmed that the central government has already committed nearly ₹629 billion—about 97 percent of the ₹650 billion earmarked as incentives under the India Semiconductor Mission.
From Consumer to Creator: Design Innovation
Through the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, 23 chip design projects have been sanctioned to support startups and innovators. Companies like Vervesemi Microelectronics are creating advanced chips for defense, aerospace, electric vehicles, and energy systems, proving India is transitioning from consumer to creator in semiconductor technology.
First ‘Made in India’ Chip Milestone
A major breakthrough occurred on August 28th with the launch of one of India’s first end-to-end OSAT Pilot Line Facilities in Sanand, Gujarat by CG-Semi. This facility is expected to roll out the first ‘Made in India‘ chip, marking a historic achievement in domestic semiconductor manufacturing.
South Asia’s Largest Semiconductor Platform
The SEMICON India exhibition expects over 15,000 visitors, establishing South Asia’s largest platform for showcasing semiconductor and electronics industry advancements. With nine state participations, the event demonstrates comprehensive national commitment to semiconductor development.
