The consumer business grew by 8.9 per cent, on the back of strong Republic Day sales and higher sell-in in March across channels. E-tail channels — or online — grew still strongly at 21.9 percent in Q1 2025. There was also a strong demand for commercial notebooks, which caused the commercial segment to grow by 7.5 percent, driven mostly by enterprises. On the flip side, the commercial desktop market declined 2.5 percent, driven primarily by a sharp 27.4 percent decline in government orders.

The strong shipment numbers indicate that the momentum is still very positive, though growing inventory in the channel might be a point of concern in the short term,’ said Shivendra Singh, Canalys analyst. HP continued to lead the top PC brands with 29.1 percent of the market. It was the top performer in both commercial (32.7 per cent) and consumer (25.9 per cent), with enterprise demand in the commercial sector being the main driver of 60.6 per cent growth.

However, efforts to reduce inventory led to a 1.4 percent decline in the consumer segment. Lenovo followed with an 18.9 percent market share, showing strong growth in both consumer (36.4 percent) and commercial (33.8 percent) categories, thanks to demand from enterprises and SMBs, along with support from retail and online sales. Dell held a 15.6 percent market share but retained its second spot in the commercial segment with a 22 percent share. A strategic inventory correction led to fewer consumer shipments, pushing it to sixth place overall, behind Apple.

Acer secured fourth place with a 15.4 percent share and a 7.6 percent annual growth. While its commercial sales dipped 21.1 percent due to reduced government and education orders, the consumer segment surged by 95.5 percent, boosted by strong online and offline sales. ASUS rounded out the top five with a 6 percent market share and an 8.6 percent YoY growth. Starting the quarter with lower inventory allowed it to ship higher volumes, and its commercial segment grew 41.1 percent, albeit from a smaller base.
