2 Indian Para-Athletes Won Bronze Medals at International Canoeing & Kayaking Sprint Goodwill Cup in Moscow, Russia

The Goodwill Cup, held on the iconic Moscow Rowing Canal, witnessed fierce competition from over 800 athletes across the globe

In a heartwarming tale of triumph over adversity, two Indian para-athletes, Vinai Kumar Kush and Krishna Kumar Samania, have won bronze medals at the International Canoeing & Kayaking Sprint Goodwill Cup in Moscow, Russia. What makes their achievement even more remarkable is that they come from underprivileged sections of society and couldn’t afford to participate without the support of HEAL Foundation.

On the glorious win of Indian para canoe players, Shri Harsh Malhotra, Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs & Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, remarked, “Their victory is a testament to their determination and hard work. It’s heartening to see organisations like HEAL Foundation supporting talented athletes from disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to showcase their skills on the global stage. Supporting athletes like Vinai and Krishna is not just about financial aid; it’s about nurturing dreams that would otherwise be left unfulfilled. Their success on the international stage showcases the untapped potential within the underprivileged sections of our society, and it’s imperative that we continue to offer them the opportunities they deserve.”

The Goodwill Cup, held on the iconic Moscow Rowing Canal, witnessed fierce competition from over 800 athletes across the globe. Amidst this intense international rivalry, Vinai and Krishna emerged as symbols of perseverance, each securing bronze medals in their respective events. Their victories, however, were not just a testament to their athletic prowess but also to the crucial support provided by the HEAL Foundation, which enabled their participation by covering their travel expenses.

Dr Swadeep Srivastava, Founder & Chairman, HEAL Foundation, asserted, “We believe in empowering talented individuals from underprivileged sections of society to achieve their dreams. Vinai and Krishna’s success is a shining example of what can be achieved with the right support and guidance. Our foundation’s mission is to bridge this gap, ensuring that no talent is left behind due to economic constraints. Vinai and Krishna’s achievements are a testament to what can be accomplished when support meets talent.”

Mr Arvind Chaudhury, Vice-President, BJP, Preet Vihar Mandal, New Delhi, added, “This achievement is not just a personal victory for Vinai and Krishna, but a triumph for all those who believe in the power of equal opportunity. Their success highlights the importance of supporting grassroots talent, especially from underprivileged backgrounds, to ensure that no dream is out of reach. HEAL Foundation’s role in this journey is commendable and sets an example for others to follow.”

Vinai, a para canoe player from Bhajanpura, Delhi, who juggles a modest job with his sports career, secured two bronze medals in the 200m and 500m kayaking events. His achievements at the Moscow Goodwill Cup add to his growing accolades, including medals at the International World Dragon Boat Championship in Pattaya, Thailand. Similarly, Krishna, a small salon owner from Madanpur Khadar, New Delhi, who practises at the Wazirabad Water Sports Club, brought home a bronze medal in the 200m canoeing event, further solidifying his reputation after winning gold and bronze at the same championship in Pattaya.

The duo’s victory is a testament to the potential of Indian para-athletes and the importance of providing them with the necessary resources and support to compete at the highest level. Their triumph inspires aspiring athletes across the country, demonstrating that anything is possible with dedication, perseverance, and the right support.
