When the world suffered from a fresh out-break of COVID-19 and we all were subjected to sudden lockdowns, the industry which flourished majorly was the gaming industry. COVID-19 resulted in a sudden boom faced by the gaming sector, and according to fresh reports, India’s mobile gaming sector has thrown open a new growth avenue for Indian gaming studios.

Due to the pandemic, the gaming studios in India saw their business scale new heights since the pandemic and strict curbs on mobility in many countries kept most people indoors. According to sources, small studios are seeing a fivefold growth in business and even the bigger studios have posted a 60% jump in the gaming business.

“We build games for both casual and mid-core audiences and, both in number and engagement, the market has grown exponentially at more than 60% for us. Esports, where we engage professional gamers, has also skyrocketed in this period. The entire Indian gaming industry has witnessed positive growth in the past few years.”

The digital entertainment firm Jetsynthesys, which is tied up with Japanese gaming giant Square Enix will be launching a reimagined version of board game ludo—Ludo Zenith—for mobile gamers. Underdogs Studio has also received requests to develop an alternative platform to PUBG Mobile, which was banned last year. Underdogs Studio has also worked with organizations like Voodoo, a billion-dollar gaming firm from France, and according to reports several firms have reached out to Underdogs Studio for gamified digital marketing campaigns, Chavan said.

A Mumbai-based gaming company called Firescore Interactive is tied up with the Israeli firm CrazyLabs to start a mentorship program titled CrazyHubs India Program. The Israeli firm invested $500,000 in Firescore last year.

For the global gaming firms, a relationship with the Indian firms gives them an insight into the Indian market. The business models could range from being as simple as making and selling a game to a bigger company or international studio asking for games to be made to certain specifications.
