Indian Football League: India’s second tier of club football now has a date to build toward. Following the Governing Council’s meeting at Football House in New Delhi, the AIFF has officially confirmed that the Indian Football League 2026-27 season will begin on October 16, 2026, alongside a key rule change designed to give homegrown talent more game time.

## What Was Decided

Representatives from 10 of the league’s 11 clubs — including Gokulam Kerala, Real Kashmir, Dempo SC and Sreenidi Deccan — attended the meeting, with Mohammedan Sporting the only absentee. Alongside confirming the start date, the council approved a new regulation capping foreign players at three in a team’s starting XI for the upcoming season.
