India vs West Indies 2nd ODI: India wins by 44 runs and takes a lead 2-0

India won the bilateral series against the West Indies and their first ODI of 2022. They defeated West Indies by 44 runs and take a 2-0 lead in the three-match showdown.

Rohit Sharma had led the team in the ODI series against West Indies by 44 runs in the second match and also take the lead by 2-0. West Indies had a target of 238 runs and they began with Brandon King and Shai Hope who got 31 runs in 7 overs. Prasidh Krishna dismissed Brandon King (18 runs) and Darren Bravo (1) in two consecutive overs. Hope had a good over but soon he was dismissed at 27 by Yuzvendra Chahal. Krishna came back for a second spell and struck right away by dismissing Pooran on 9 to leave WI 4 down. Shardul Thakur dismissed Jason Holder on 2 runs, Brooks continued to play and moved into 40s. He returned to the pavilion at 43 runs as Deepak Hooda dismissed him. Akeal Hosein (34) and Fabian Allen (13) added  42 runs for the 7th wicket before Mohammed Siraj removed the latter. Hosein got dismissed at 8 runs by Shardul Thakur. Odean Smith tried to keep the innings for WI alive but couldn’t succeed as he was dismissed by Washington Sundar on 24 runs. All the players for West Indies got dismissed at 193.

 The first innings began with Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma as the opening batters. The opening stand didn’t last long as Kumar Roach dismissed Rohit on 5. Virat Kohli (18) and Rishabh Pant (18) then put on 30 runs for the second before Odean Smith dismissed both the batters in the same over. KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav had a 50-run stand in 83 balls. They added a total of 91 before a mix-up resulted in Rahul falling short of his crease on 49. Then, Surya Kumar Yadav scored 50 in 70 balls and put on 43 runs for the 5th wicket before gifting his wicket to Fabian Allen by playing a botched sweep shot. Akeal Hosein dismissed Sundar on 24 before Alzarri Joseph picked two quick wickets and leave India 8 down. Deepak Hooda, scored 29 before Jason Holder got his wicket. The hosts posted 237/9 in 50 overs.
