Shikhar Dhawan became the 4th fastest batsman to reach 6000 ODI runs after scoring 23 runs. In international cricket, the left-handed batsman has also amassed 10,000 runs. He changed the game’s record books while batting against Sri Lanka in the first of the three-match series in Colombo on Sunday. He became the 4th fastest batter to reach 6000 ODI runs after scoring 23 runs.

The left-handed batter achieved this accomplishment by scoring two runs off the last delivery of Lakshan Sandakan’s 16th over. In ODIs, he scored 6000 runs in 140 innings. Hashim Amla of South Africa was the fastest batter to reach this milestone, doing it in just 123 innings. Virat Kohli is second on the list (136), followed by Kane Williamson of New Zealand (139). Dhawan is the only other Indian on the list.

Dhawan, who is captaining for the first time, has also reached 10,000 runs in international cricket. This astonishing accomplishment was accomplished by the left-hander during the first match of the three-match series versus Sri Lanka in Colombo.

He was the 14th Indian batsman to reach the milestone. Dhawan has 5977 runs from 142 ODIs before stepping out to bat in the first ODI against Sri Lanka, with 17 hundred and 32 fifties. In 65 T20 Internationals, he has 1673 runs and in 34 Test matches, he has 2315 runs.

Earlier, Team India held Sri Lanka to a total of 262 for 9. Kuldeep (2/48) and Chahal (2/52) didn’t exactly run down Sri Lanka’s batting order, but they did bowl enough wicket-taking deliveries to stifle the run-flow. Krunal Pandya (1/26) contributed as well, making run-scoring difficult for the Lankan middle order. The three spinners bowled a total of 98 dot balls, resulting in 16.2 calm overs.
