Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka’s decision backfired spectacularly. They were bundled out for a paltry 50 runs, their second-lowest ODI score ever, with India’s bowlers running riot.

India’s opening pair of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan displayed composure and aggression in equal measure. They chased down the meager target of 51 runs in just 6.1 overs, showcasing their impeccable batting skills. The record-breaking victory was achieved with 263 balls to spare, leaving Sri Lanka shell-shocked.

This Asia Cup final marked several milestones and records:

  • India’s biggest win in terms of balls remaining in an ODI final.
  • Siraj’s 6/21 being the fourth-best ODI figures by an Indian.
  • Sri Lanka’s second-lowest ODI total against India.

Both India and Sri Lanka had their share of injury concerns leading up to the final. Axar Patel’s absence was felt in the Indian lineup, and Washington Sundar was brought in as cover. Sri Lanka lost their frontline spinner, Mahesh Theekshana, for the tournament but expected his return for the World Cup.

Captain Rohit Sharma expressed confidence in his team’s ability to chase down any total and praised the crowd’s support. Sri Lanka’s captain, Dasun Shanaka, acknowledged the formidable Indian bowling attack and the challenges his team faced.

From Siraj’s breathtaking spell to Gill and Kishan’s masterful batting, it was a day when India played cricket at its finest. As they lifted their eighth Asia Cup title, they sent a powerful message to the cricketing world. While Sri Lanka may have faced a tough defeat, their journey to the final was commendable.
