India’s first game under new head coach Manolo Marquez ended in a goalless draw against Mauritius at Hyderabad. The two nations went head to head as part of the Intercontinental Cup, but neither team was able to find the back of the net in the 90 minutes.
Clear cut chances were few and far in between for the two teams, but India dominated the play near their opponent’s final third in the first half. But, a high quality final ball evaded them. Manvir Singh forced a save from the opposition goalkeeper from a tight angle, while a strong shot from the edge of the box for Mauritius hit the crossbar near the end of the first half.

The Blue Tigers lacked sharpness in midfield and up front. Liston Colaco was one of the sparks of the evening, showcasing his impressive footwork out wide to help create chances for his teammates.
However, things just didn’t click for the home team in front of goal. And fans will surely believe that improvements must be made across all departments.
India will face Syria in their next game in the Intercontinental Cup on September 9. It remains to be seen if things turn out better the next time when the hosts take to the pitch again in Hyderabad.
