With day 2 of the fourth test between India and England being played out to a conclusion, the visitors are now behind by 56 runs only, with their entire lineup yet to play.
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul scored 20 and 22 runs respectively, to put up a scoreline of 43/0 at Stumps. After a collapse in the batting order in the first innings, India have managed to recover well and look set to put up a healthy target on the board for the hosts.
After starting the day with three wickets down, England were reduced to 62/5 before Ollie Pope managed to turn things around with a well-played innings, scoring 81 runs in the process. The partnership between Jonny Bairstow and Pope was key to England’s successful performance with the bat. The pair put up 77 runs off of 109 balls to drag England back into the game.
Chris Woakes also scored a fast fifty to nudge the lead close to 100 runs. His contributions were then cut off, as he was run out for the final wicket. England put up 290 on the board, with a 99-run lead to defend against. The all-rounder has put up a brilliant performance with the ball and bat, and is in contention to be the player of the match if it is won by England.
Day 3 is expected to be the best day to bat on, and following that train of thought, India have the upper hand to set up a big total to defend against and gain the advantage in the test series.
