Indian football’s October calendar just got significantly more exciting. Fresh off confirming a historic friendly against Brazil, reports now suggest the Blue Tigers could face World Cup 2026 debutants Cape Verde just three days later, giving Khalid Jamil’s side back-to-back tests against elite international opposition.

## What’s Being Reported

According to Hindustan Times and The Telegraph, India are likely to face Cape Verde on October 6, 2026, coming right after the highly anticipated Brazil clash on October 3 in Kolkata. The venue remains unconfirmed, with Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi both being assessed based on availability and logistical requirements for staging a FIFA international.

## India vs Cape Verde: Why Cape Verde Is a Genuine Test

Cape Verde enjoyed a breakout World Cup campaign, holding eventual champions Spain to a goalless draw in the group stage and pushing Argentina into extra time in the Round of 16 before bowing out. Facing a side of that caliber would offer India a demanding, high-quality test just days after their own Brazil showdown.

## Blue Tigers: Key Details

| Detail | Information |
| --- | --- |
| Brazil Friendly | October 3, Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata |
| Cape Verde Friendly (Reported) | October 6, venue TBC |

| Cape Verde’s WC 2026 Run | Draw vs Spain, extra-time exit vs Argentina |

## An Unprecedented Test of Strength

If confirmed, this fixture would give India a remarkable four matches this year against teams that featured at the 2026 World Cup, including Brazil, Cape Verde, and a two-leg November tour of New Zealand — a rare and valuable stretch of high-level exposure for Jamil’s squad. Full fixture confirmations will be available on the [official AIFF website](https://www.the-aiff.com/).
