Rohit Kumar’s bronze in the same event and Bhagyashri Madhavrao Jadhav’s silver in women’s shot put-F34 are further illustrations of India’s depth of talent in para athletics.

In the domain of badminton, Nithya Sre Sivan’s securing of a bronze medal in the women’s singles SH6 marked a pivotal moment in India’s journey to its historic medal tally of 73. The country’s previous best stood at 72 medals, achieved in Indonesia in 2018.

India’s para athletes have etched their names in the record books by achieving their best-ever medal tally at the Asian Para Games. Additionally, the country has set a new record for the highest number of gold medals in a single edition of an Asian Para Games, with 16 gold medals so far in Hangzhou, surpassing the previous record of 15 gold medals in 2018.

India’s participation in the Asian Para Games has been nothing short of spectacular, with 313 athletes representing the country in 18 out of the 22 sports. The athletes have competed in a total of 556 gold-medal events, demonstrating the depth and breadth of talent in India’s para sports.

This journey of triumph began in 2010, when the first Para Asian Games took place in Guangzhou, China. India finished 15th in that edition with 14 medals, including one gold. In subsequent editions in 2014 and 2018, India finished 15th and ninth, respectively, setting the stage for the monumental success witnessed in 2023.
