With the ISL season set to conclude in the next one week, the attention will turn to international football in June. India head coach Igor Stimac has been demanding a longer training camp for the national team, and will finally get his wish with a four-week camp in Bhubaneswar starting 10 May, 2024.
The squad has not been named as such, but we can expect to see some new names such as prolific I-League striker Lalrinzuala Lalbiaknia, who shattered captain Sunil Chhetri’s record of scoring the most goals in the league for an Indian.

Stimac has been strongly criticised by fans for the national team’s performances in the last international break. The team lost to Afghanistan at home, in what could be a huge blow to their hopes of making it to Round 3 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
And now, they face two difficult matches against Kuwait and Qatar to try and seal second place in their group and make it to the next stage. Igor Stimac will have a long time to prepare for the qualifiers, and now, there’s no excuse left to not deliver results on the pitch.
