India got eliminated from T20 World Cup on Sunday. New Zealand beat Afghanistan on Sunday which confirmed India’s elimination from the T20 World Cup.

It was a big shock to the organizers because India has the biggest broadcast market and the team’s weakness is also predicted with the world Cup’s format and schedule. India’s first two matches were scheduled on Sundays. The first one was an anticipated match against Pakistan.

The batting and bowling performances both were not up to the mark. Pakistan won by a huge margin( 10 wickets) which was unpredictable. The next game was against New Zealand which India lost as well.

In the third game, India did defeat New Zealand and scored a good net run rate (NRR).In its fourth game against Scotland, India had a major victory that took India’s net run rate (NRR) to +1.619.

India’s chances in the semifinals were actually dependent if Afghanistan had won the match against New Zealand. With the latter’s win in today’s match, there is no chance of India qualifying for the semifinals. The hope of bringing back trophy after 2007 remained a dream for this year as well.

Cricket is the most popular sport in India and the second most popular sport in New Zealand. Still, the kiwis have defeated India in the semifinals of 2019 in a 50 over World Cup, in the world test Championship and now for the T20 World Cup.

Since 2007, the Men in Blue have been to the semifinals in every edition but they failed to lift the ICC T20 trophy.

India finished as a runner up in ICC T20 World Cup 2014 and lost two semifinals in 2015 and 2016 T20 World Cup.

Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, India lost the 2017 Champions Trophy and 2021 World Test Championship final. They also got defeated in the 2019 Cricket World Cup semi-final to New Zealand.

This is the last season Virat Kohli is having as a captain. Rohit Sharma is most likely to be the next captain.
