India played out a 0-0 draw against Afghanistan at the Damac Stadium in Saudi Arabia, sharing a point with their opponents in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier. The Afghans fielded a depleted line-up as expected, and India were not clinical enough to take their chances.
Igor Stimac’s side did everything right when it came to attacking, even producing the right final ball. But, they were unable to finish and take their chances when they came. And as a result, they have missed out on two crucial points to potentially make it to the Round 3 fixtures.

Subhashis Bose came the closest to breaking the deadlock after a frenzy of end to end chances throughout the game. However, he was unable to find the back of the net either, as India left with nothing to show for their impressive display.
The return leg will be played on Tuesday, March 26 when India face Afghanistan in Guwahati. With the home crowd behind them, they will be expected to take three vital points to advance to the Round 3 qualifiers.
But, their attackers will have to find their composure in front of goal to be able to send their team over the line, now that the odds are in their favour.
