India was chasing a target of 207 runs but ultimately fell short of 16 runs. The top-order failed but a run stand of 91 between Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav kept the hopes alive. Earlier, Dasun Shanaka from Sri Lanka mustered an unbeaten 56 off 22 deliveries and Kusal Mendis smashed 52 off 31 balls. Among the Indian bowlers, Umran Malik shined as he gave 58 runs in four overs but scalped three wickets. Both the teams have one match each and the last one will decide the winner.

The match went down to the wire but it is Sri Lanka who won the second T20I by 16 runs.

Indian skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first. Kusal Mendis and Dasub Shanaka’s half-centuries helped Sri Lanka post 200 plus run in 20 overs. Mendis scored a 50 in 27 deliveries while Shanka finished at an unbeaten 56 runs in 22 deliveries. Sri Lanka started on a strong note as the openers added 80 runs in 8.2 wickets. After the first wicket, the visitors started losing wickets at regular intervals but soon Shanaka took the chance and helped his team post a total of 206 runs. In the 2nd innings, the openers couldn’t show their magic but Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel’s put some effort into the game to win it but everything went in vain. In the powerplay, Hardik Pandya got out for 12, but Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav helped things get better. Sooner, Hasaranga dismissed Hooda at 9 runs. Before Suryakumar was removed for 51, he and Axar Patel had stitched together a stand of more over 90 in 36 balls. The latter was out in the last over for 65 in 31.
