The Indian team got eliminated by New Zealand in the Hockey World Cup held at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar. Both the teams were at 3-3 but the visitors clinched the victory 4-5. Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Sukhjeet Singh, and Varun Kumar scored for India in the four quarters. New Zealand’s players Sam Lane, Kane Russell, and Sean Findlay were the goal scorers from New Zealand.

India vs New Zealand, Hockey World Cup: Match Highlights

The hosts lost to make it to the quarterfinals as the visitors at the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup won 4-5 this Sunday. The match ended in penalties as both the teams had a tie at 3 goals each in the full time. From India, Lalit Upadhyay scored in the 17th minute, Sukhjeet Singh in the 24th minute, and Varun Grover in the 40th. From New Zealand, Sam Lane scored a goal in the 28th minute, and two penalty conversions were done by Sean Findley in the 43rd minute and Sam Lane at the 49th minute. It was the final quarter when new Zealand raised its scores.

It was Sean Findlay’s goal that helped New Zealand take a lead over India at 4-3. Soon. Indian player Rajkumar also puts the ball into the nets and both teams were at 4-4. Hayden Philips missed out on his opportunity to convert a goal as Krishna Pathak saved the goal brilliantly. Sukhjeet Singh couldn’t deliver the goal as well and at this point, both nations were in a do-or-die situation. Sam Lane finally landed a goal that put his team ahead of the hosts. Shamsher Singh failed to hit a goal and New Zealand beat India to enter the quarterfinals of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup.
