Christopher nolan

Hey there, movie buffs! Let’s chat about the wizard of the silver screen, Christopher Nolan. This guy isn’t just a director; he’s like the Gandalf of Hollywood, conjuring up mind-bending blockbusters that leave us all scratching our heads and begging for more.

Picture this: You’re sitting in a dark theater, popcorn in hand, and suddenly you’re transported into a world where dreams can be stolen, time goes backwards, and Batman actually makes sense. That’s the Nolan magic for you!

This cinematic sorcerer has been turning heads faster than a Batmobile on nitro. He’s got more nominations than you can shake a stick at – we’re talking Oscars, BAFTAs, Golden Globes – the whole shebang! It’s like he’s collecting awards nominations like they’re Pokemon cards.

Remember when he made us all fall in love with the Caped Crusader again with “The Dark Knight” trilogy? That wasn’t just a superhero flick; it was a cultural phenomenon! And don’t even get me started on “Inception.” That movie had us all questioning reality and probably gave Leonardo DiCaprio the best workout of his life, running through all those dream levels.

But Nolan didn’t stop there. Oh no, he had to go and blow our minds with “Interstellar,” making us all feel like we needed a PhD in astrophysics just to keep up. Then came “Dunkirk,” where he basically said, “Hey, let’s make a war movie that feels like a ticking time bomb.” And just when we thought we had him figured out, he drops “Tenet” on us, a movie that’s basically a palindrome with explosions.

The cherry on top? The big cheese of Hollywood finally gave him a nod for Best Director with “Dunkirk.” It’s like they finally realized what we’ve all known for years – this guy is the real deal.

So, next time you’re in the mood for a movie that’ll make your brain do somersaults, grab some Nolan. Just make sure you’ve got plenty of snacks and maybe a notebook – you’re gonna need them!

Twitter user Trung Phan recently uncovered this puzzling discovery. Christopher Nolan chooses practical effects over Computer-Generated Imagery for creating the most chaotic scene setups in his films according to Twitter user Trung Phan. An examination follows of these particular examples.

Let’s explore the top 5 incredible shots taken by Christoper Nolan using practical effects as he hates CGI:

Interstellar

Christopher Nolan invested $100,000 in planting 500 genuine acres of corn in Alberta. Following the filming process, he subsequently sold the crop to generate a profit.

2/ INCEPTION

You know that spinning hallway where Joseph-Gordon Levitt is fighting some bad guys.

Yeah, Nolan built a giant rotating centrifuge and put a hallway in it along with ridiculously expensive cameras. pic.twitter.com/RhGxUz74To

The Dark Knight

Batman flipped Joker’s 18-wheeler truck. To get the FX, a piston was put under the trailer with TNT. When the TNT blows, the piston hits the ground so hard, that it flips the truck. The only CGI used was to remove the piston from the shot.

4/ TENET

Watched the film twice. Have no idea what the plot is, but mad respect for Nolan crashing a real 747 into an airport hangar.

Turns out it was cheaper to buy a 747 and crash it vs. doing CGI. pic.twitter.com/omilm16gz6

The Dark Knight Rises

Christopher Nolan filmed this scene in the Scottish Highlands and got the government sign-off to drop an aeroplane fuselage into the mountain range. The stunt crew was legit on the outside of the plane (jumped from a helicopter and wore parachutes).

6/ OPPENHEIMER

Nolan’s newest movie (July 2023) is about the Manhattan Project and the making of the atom bomb.

The film apparently recreates a nuclear bomb with practical effects, which is objectively insane (but obviously very cool). pic.twitter.com/mNOV2rkdy0

8/ BONUS: DUNKIRK

There were ~400k people evacuated from Dunkirk in WWII.

With only a few 1000 extras,
the crew created “fences” made of cardboard cutouts of actors posing as soldiers.

Instead of CGI, 10s of thousands of cutouts were made and put up for far-off beach shots. pic.twitter.com/N4GJOSnII9
