Inaki Pena has extended his contract with Barcelona until 2026, as officially revealed by the club on their website. The new release clause in his contract is set at €400 million, meaning the club sees him as a long-term prospect and wants to keep him for the foreseeable future.
Whether or not he will be promoted to the number 1 position is as of yet unclear, considering Marc Andre ter Stegen’s unparalleled performance between the posts.
Inaki Pena extends contract with Barcelona
The Barcelona academy graduate made his debut in the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen earlier this season. He has made two more appearances since then, and has been the deputy to ter Stegen this season.
His lack of participation in the Copa del Rey created doubts about whether he would commit to the club. But, the official announcement has put an end to any speculation surrounding his departure. Last season, he was on loan at Galatasaray for the second half of the season, and has now been integrated into the first team.
Following Inaki Pena, Barcelona will now turn their attention to registering the new contracts of their other players. Alejandro Balde and Yamine Lamal are the next on the list, while Gavi and Ronald Araujo’s deals are yet to be registered with La Liga.
