Bollywood’s most anticipated mythological epic just got a powerful vote of confidence. Director Imtiaz Ali has stepped up to back Ranbir Kapoor’s casting as Lord Rama in Nitesh Tiwari’s *Ramayana* — and his reasoning is hard to argue with.

## Why Imtiaz Ali Trusts Ranbir Kapoor With Lord Rama

Since the makers dropped the first glimpse of *Ramayana*, fans have been divided — some swooning over Ranbir’s look as Lord Rama, others sceptical about the actor playing such a serene, revered character.

Imtiaz, who knows Ranbir’s craft intimately, put it simply: “Ranbir can do anything as an actor. He should do different roles, and when he does different roles, he’ll become them. He is a pure actor.”

What makes his backing more compelling is the *why*. According to Imtiaz, playing Lord Rama will leave a lasting personal impact on Ranbir: “It’ll be hugely beneficial for Ranbir to have played Rama because he is the kind of actor who imbibes from the character. He will take from Rama, and that will be so enriching for him.”

He also urged a more human approach to the iconic role: “It will be nice to approach Lord Rama’s character in a humane and personal way.”
