Former India head coach Igor Stimac has secured a compensation payout worth ₹3.36 crore from the AIFF. The Croatian was removed from his post as the head coach of the national team after failing to make it to Round 3 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
Things took a dramatic turn as he spoke out against the AIFF and it’s officials upon being removed. Stimac also put forth a legal case for wrongful termination since he had signed a new contract just a year prior till 2026.

The Croatian manager threatened to sue the federation over non-payment of dues and had mentioned that he would go up to FIFA for the issue if the dues were not cleared. While he originally demanded a sum double that of the final payout, it is still a big blow to the AIFF, that has struggled for funds.
FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez has since been named the new head coach of the Indian national team. The former Hyderabad FC coach has only led one game against Mauritius which ended in a 0-0 draw in the Intercontinental Cup.
It now remains to be seen whether the AIFF has a turnaround in fortunes after appointing a new manager for the foreseeable future.
