The Central Contentious Court of Madrid lifted Robert Lewandowski’s suspension, therefore he was able to play in the derby between Barcelona and Espanyol and the result of the derby was 1-1.
On 2nd January Espanyol launched an official statement to RFEF claiming that Robert Lewandowski was supposed to be suspended for the match between FC Barcelona and Espanyol but then also Lewandowski played in the derby.
If Espanyol’s appeal is granted by the court Barcelona will have a 0-3 defeat in the derby because of Lewandowski
According to SPORT, before the derby, FC Barcelona filed an appeal for the first yellow card in Pamplona given to Lewandowski and later he saw his 2nd yellow card which led to his suspension.
“is exceptional, I don’t remember in years that FC Barcelona itself would have done it,” a lawyer consulted by SPORT said.
“It is an important aspect since the Competition letter differentiates between the sanction for the double yellow and for his reaction after being expelled.” President of the Catalan Association of Sports Law said.
If RFEF approves the complaint of Espanyol then Barcelona will have to face a 0-3 defeat against Espanyol.
FC Barcelona will also come to the 2nd position of the league’s table from the top of the table. As Barcelona will be on the second then Real Madrid will achieve the first position at the top of the table which will help Real Madrid to win the La Liga Santander title again.
If this case of Robert Lewandowski is not resolved before Sunday he will not be able to play the coming match of FC Barcelona, which is against Atletico Madrid.
