Goal has ranked the top 25 African players in the world right now, and PSG players Idrissa Gueye and Achraf Hakimi have made the list. While the 31-year-old midfielder is number 14 ahead of Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Achraf Hakimi is much higher on the list.
Gueye has been defensively compact in the midfield of Mauricio Pochettino’s system, and has helped PSG go forward as well. Hakimi, on the other hand, is at number 5. The former Real Madrid and Inter wing-back is recognised as one of the best in his position, and has already started making a big impact at the French capital.
His offensive output is among the best in the world for a full-back, and his performances helped Inter Milan win the Serie A title last year, under Antonio Conte as well. As a result, he earned a big move to PSG since the Italian club were in a financial crisis due to their Chinese owners.
Riyad Mahrez, Edouard Mendy, Sadio Mané, and Mohamed Salah of the Premier League are ranked ahead of Hakimi, and the decision is fair given the sheer quality of each of these names.
Salah scored 100 Premier League goals recently, after most of them coming for Liverpool. Mendy has been critical to Chelsea’s defensive revival from last year, and his contributions helped the Blues to their second Champions League trophy in 2021. Sadio Mane has been a reliable partner to Salah at Liverpool, and has also been influential for Senegal when called for national duty.
