ICC WTC Final: India and New Zealand to be awarded as joint champions in case of a draw

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the playing circumstances on Friday, stating that in the event of a tie, both India and New Zealand will be named “joint winners” of the ICC World Test Championship final, which is scheduled take place at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton from June 18 to 22.

The playing rules provide that a draw will result in both teams being declared joint victors, as well as the allocation of a Reserve Day to make up for any time missed during the Final’s normal days. The 23rd of June has been designated as the Reserve Day in the event that a result is not attained within five days. The Reserve Day has been scheduled to ensure five full days of action, and it will be used only if lost game time cannot be made up under the standard provisions of making up for lost time each day.

If a positive outcome is not attained after five complete days of play, the match will be ruled a draw in that case. In the case that time is lost during the match, the Match Referee will inform both teams of how the “reserve day” will be put into action. The ultimate verdict on whether or not to employ the Reserve Day will be made at the planned start of the fifth day’s last hour.

The match will be played with Grade 1 Dukes cricket balls, according to an ICC press statement.

As far as the short run rule is concerned, any call of a short run by the On-field Umpire will be automatically reviewed by the Third Umpire, and the judgement will be communicated to the On-field Umpire before the next ball is bowled.

Before determining whether to launch a player review for LBW, the fielding captain or the dismissed batsman may establish with the Umpire if a genuine attempt to play the ball was made. The Wicket Zone height margin has been raised to the top of the stumps for LBW reviews to ensure the same Umpire’s Call margin around the stumps for both height and width.
