In the finale of the ICC Women U19 T20 World Cup, Women in Blue to receive a prize of Rs 5 crore from BCCI
The Indian Women U19 team made history as they bagged the U19 T20 World Cup by defeating England in the first edition. They were chasing a target of 69 runs and reached it in 14 overs. Indian pacer Titas Sadhu and leg-spinner Parshavi Chopra’s performances restricted the opposition to just 68 runs.
ICC Women’s World Cup U19 Final: Match Highlights
The Indian women defeated the England women by 7 wickets to win the inaugural season of the Women’s Under 19 T20 World Cup. The women in blue were chasing a low total of just 69 runs. India lost both openers quickly. Shafali Verma and Shweta Sehrawat came to the rescue, the latter being the leading run-scorer. In the end, Soumya Tiwari scored the winning runs for the Indian team.
In the first innings, Parshavi Chopra, Titas Sadhu, and Archana Devi scalped two wickets each. On the other hand, Mannat Kashyap, Shafali Verma, and Soman Yadav grabbed one each. England’s batting performance was very poor as only four batters could get to the double digits. Rayana Macdonald-gay was the leading scorer from England who piled up 19 runs. Earlier, England defeated Australia to get to the finale and India beat New Zealand.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah congratulated the team on social media and will be presenting Rs 5 crore to the entire team and supporting staff as the prize money.
He wrote on Twitter “Women’s Cricket in India is on the upswing and the World Cup triumph has taken the stature of women’s cricket several notches higher. I am delighted to announce INR 5 crore for the entire team and support staff as prize money. This is surely a path-breaking year.”
The victory has been lauded by the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and the entire nation. winning the very first season of the tournament will be very special for the entire Indian cricket fraternity and fans.
