India have defeated Australia by 24 runs in their second Super 8 match at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Rohit Sharma led from the front, playing a captain’s innings with his 92-run innings from just 41 deliveries, earning him the man of the match award. India were cruising halfway through their time at the crease, before the wickets started falling much more frequently.

Sharma’s dismissal reduced India’s momentum significantly, but Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya were able to take the Blues past the 200-run mark to put up a solid target for their rivals.

David Warner was the first to be dismissed for Australia, as Arshdeep secured his first wicket for the innings. He would go on to dismiss Tim David and Matthew Wade later on to end his four overs with a figure of 3-37.

Jasprit Bumrah stepped up once again to take the wicket of Travis Head, who had built up a head of steam for the ODI World Champions, scoring 76 runs in 43 balls.

The Blues had several chances to swerve momentum in their favour earlier in the game. However, they were mostly in the form of opportunities that fell just short of a player, or a dropped catch.

But, it wasn’t enough to change the result dramatically as India now top their group with six points from three games.

How many points do Australia have now?

2 points from 3 games, second place
