The ICC Team of the Year appreciates the achievements of players who have had an exceptional performance in cricket in a particular calendar year.

Let’s take a look at both women and men’s ODI teams this year.

ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year

Lizelle Lee (South Africa)

Lizelle Lee had 632 runs in her pocket and emerged as the highest run-scorer in women’s ODIs in 2021.

Alyssa Healy (wk) (Australia)

Alyssa Healy had accumulated 267 runs in six ODIs in 2021 with an average of 44.50. She scored two half-centuries and a 77 against India in September.

Tammy Beaumont (England)

The England opener had one of her career-best performances as she surpassed 503 runs at an average of 62.87

Mithali Raj (India)

Mithali Raj, the Indian batter and skipper, crossed the same number of runs as Beaumont and at exactly the same average. She didn’t score a century but she crossed the 50 mark runs six times.

Heather Knight (c) (England)

Women Team’s captain has been a very important part of the middle-order and once again became the top performer in 2021.

Marizanne Kapp (South Africa)

Kapp is a strong middle-order batter and her strike rate is 98.91. She made 183 runs in 2021 at an average of 61. She even picked 11 wickets at an average of 29.18

Hayley Matthews (West Indies)

The West Indies all-rounder accumulated a total of 380 runs in the year, including one century and a fifty. She made an equal impact with her bowling as well, picking up 18 wickets at an outstanding average of 22.44.

Fatima Sana (Pakistan)

The Pakistani cricketer took 20 wickets in just 13 matches. She picked her wickets at an excellent strike rate of 26.6 and did well as a lower-order batter too scoring 132 runs at an average of 14.66

Jhulan Goswami (India)

The Indian pacer took 15 wickets in 2021 at an economy rate of 3.77. She’s an experienced bowler and is always an asset for any side.

Shabnim Ismail (South Africa)

Ismail finished as the joint second-highest wicket-taker(18 wickets) in 2021. She has been consistent with her performance in the 12 matches at an economy rate of 4.11 runs per over.

Anisa Mohammed (West Indies)

Mohammed finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 20 wickets to her name at a spectacular average of 18.00. She’s been very economical giving only 3.61 runs each over.

ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year

Paul Stirling (Ireland)

Paul Stirling finished 2021 as the highest run-scorer in ODIs in 2021 with 705 runs. His runs came in only 14 matches at an average of 79.66. He scored three centuries and two half-centuries.

Janneman Malan (South Africa)

 Malan scored 509 runs in eight matches at an average of 84.83 with two centuries and two half-centuries. He also maintained persistence in his performance throughout the year.

Babar Azam (c) (Pakistan)

Babar Azam played only six matches in 2021 but scored 405 runs with an average of 67.50 and two centuries. He made essential contributions in tough tours of South Africa and England

Fakhar Zaman (Pakistan)

He played 6 matches, he aggregated 365 runs at an average of 60.83 with two centuries. He scored 193  in their chase of 342 in Johannesburg

Rassie van der Dussen (South Africa)

He had impactful knocks and mastered rotating strikes, he scored 342 runs in just 8 games at an average of 57. He also scored a 100 against Pakistan in Centurion.

Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh)

In nine matches, he scored 277 runs at an average of 39.57 with two 100s. He also took 17 wickets at an average of 17.52. 

Mushfiqur Rahim (wk) (Bangladesh)

Mushfiqur scored 356 runs at an average of 27.38 with three half-centuries in 14 matches. He is also picking up 12 wickets at a miserly economy of 4.56.

Mustafizur Rahman (Bangladesh)

Mustafirzur Rahman scalped 18 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 21.55. He also gave a tough fight to the batters at an economy rate of 5.03.

Simi Singh (Ireland)

Simi Singh picked up 19 wickets at 20.15 in 2021 in just 13 matches, which included one five-for. He also contributed 280 runs at a strike rate of 46.66, which included one century and one half-century.

Dushmantha Chameera (Sri Lanka)

Being a part of 14 matches, he scalped 20 wickets at an average of 29.30 with one five-wicket haul. He maintained his fitness and was rewarded well.
