ICC Media Rights deal with Disney Star is worth USD 3.1 Billion Credits- News Waali

Recently, the International Cricket Council (ICC) finalized its Media rights deal with Disney Star which is valued at USD 3.1 Billion. Star on this Saturday acquired the broadcast rights of all ICC events for 2024-1027 for India. As per reports, the deal is almost 110-125% higher than the last cycle.

Media Rights Value of ICC for 2024-2027

  • USD 3.1 billion for the Indian Sub- Continent Market for 2024-2027
  • The previous deal for 2015-2023 was USD 2.02 billion
  • The deal parameters have changed completely in this cycle in three major areas. They are:
  1. The new deal is for 4 years, unlike the last year’s deal which was 8 years.
  2. Women’s Cricket consists of a Robust Calendar. ICC Men’s Event will be held every year, in the last cycle, only 6 Men’s Events were held in 8 years.
  3. The fresh deal is only for the Indian market, the previous deal was a global one.

The media rights for the marquee Indian Premiere League (IPL) were worth of 48,380 crores. This is 3 times more of the previous deal. The deal was for 5 years. The per match value of the IPL Rights was Rs.57.5 crore for Television and for rs 50 crore digitally per match.

The star has acquired the rights for 4 years at USD 3.1 billion. The Disney Star has won the ICC Media Rights in a single round only increasing the rights fee for the previous cycle continuing to grow the reach of Cricket.

Disney Star is set to be the home of ICC cricket in India for the next four years after winning the TV and digital rights of men’s and women’s global events till 2027.

Disney Star will be the home of all ICC cricket in India for the next four years having won the TV and digital rights of both men’s and women’s global events till the end of 2027, the ICC said in a statement.

ICC Chair Greg Barclay said: “We are delighted to continue to partner with Disney Star as the home of ICC cricket for the next four years which has delivered an outstanding result for our Members and will support our ambitious growth plans. They will play a crucial role in the future of our sport and connecting and engaging with more fans than ever before. Star emerged winners after staving off a strong challenge from Viacom 18, Sony Sports, and Zee Network.“

“With the acquisition of the ICC Digital and TV broadcast rights, Disney Star has further strengthened its status as the premier destination for marquee cricket events in the country.” Disney Star has played an important role over the last seven years in transforming ICC matches into one of the biggest sporting spectacles in India and has expanded the viewer base of the property “across geographies and demographics” said K Madhavan, Country Manager and President, Disney Star

The ICC also plans to go to US and UK markets before this year’s Christmas and then the rest of Asia.
