News broke a few days ago that Hugo Boumous had been de-registered by Mohun Bagan SG for the remainder of the ISL campaign. In his place, Finnish midfielder Joni Kauko was registered with the colossal figure making a return from a serious injury.
Fans have been left wondering where the Moroccan will end up next, now that he will no longer play a part in the ISL. But as per an update from renowned Times of India journalist Marcus Mergulhao, the midfielder isn’t going anywhere and could be staying with Mohun Bagan SG for the future.
Hugo Boumous to stay at Mohun Bagan SG after de-registration?
The Mariners already have a stacked squad of foreigners with Dmitri Petratos, Armando Sadiku, Jason Cummings, Brendan Hamill and Hector Yuste. With the addition of Kauko, they will have a complete midfielder owing to his dominant physical presence in the middle of the park.
There have been rumours of Armando Sadiku and Jason Cummings both leaving at the end of the season. A possible transfer was also mentioned during the January transfer window, but nothing took place.
A departure for either striker could open up a foreign spot for Hugo Boumous to return in. And in that case, it could be a temporary layoff for the attacking midfielder who has cemented himself as one of the key players in the squad since joining them a couple of years ago.
With Sahal Abdul Samad and Anirudh Thapa both in contention for midfield spots this season, Antonio Habas shouldn’t have any problems with selection. Both players have a keen eye to progress the ball forward. Moreover, Petratos’ tendency to drop back and create chances also poses a huge threat for opponents.
