A new SoC from Huawei spotted, named the Kirin 985 has appeared on AI Benchmark – only to be beaten immediately by the Dimensity 1000. The alleged new Huawei SoC rise gained third spot in the test’s rankings behind the new MediaTek 5G flagship SoC.

The Kirin 985 seems to be a new SoC from Huawei and is patently intended to fall between the older premium Kirin 980 chipset and the current Kirin 990 flagship silicon.

It is said to be featuring 4 Cortex A76 cores and 1 of which runs at a top speed of 2.58 GHz, and the rest of which are clocked 2.40 GHz. The other 4 cores are Cortex A55 cores clocked at a modest 1.84 GHz which is enough to handle daily tasks.

On top of this, to handle all the AI tasks, there are 2 of the Kirin 990 5G’s Da Vinci NPU cores. This arrangement of the ARM cores is found in the new Kirin 820 SoC although the Cortex A76 cores are clocked slower.

Prominent leaker, OnLeaks has also validated the Kirin 985’s existence and it will support “the largest image sensor of the mobile industry“. According to him, the chip might be supporting the unreleased Sony IMX 7-series and with a resolution of 50MP. The chip is said to be featured in the Honor 30 series, currently which is scheduled to be launching on April 15th.
