Huawei plans to launch its new Dyna Cloud L420 laptop powered by its own Kirin 9006C SoC

Since the release of AMD Ryzen 5000 and Intel Tiger Lake-H-based computers earlier this year, the laptop market has been pretty quiet. Laptops featuring Alder Lake-P processors are slated to launch early next year, and according to My Drivers, Huawei is seeking to join the fray with the new Dyna Cloud L420.

The Dyna Cloud L420 is said to be powered by Huawei’s brand-new in-house Arm SoC, the Kirin 9006C. The SoC will have 8 CPU cores, with the primary core(s) running at up to 3.1 GHz. Furthermore, it is rumored that the SoC will include a new GPU known as the Kirin 9000C. Unlike AMD and Intel’s PC-centric x86-64 CPUs, which are built on 7nm and 10nm manufacturing nodes, the Kirin 9006C is based on a 5nm technology, similar to the latest mobile chips from Apple and Qualcomm.

The Kirin 9006C is said to have only 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, according to the leaked specifications. The display is 14 inches wide and has a resolution of 2160×1440 pixels. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 4.2 are available for wireless connectivity. HDMI, USB-A (x2), USB-C (x1), and GbE via a mini-RJ45 connector are among the wired ports. A rather large 56 WHr battery provides power, which is recharged using a USB-C rapid charge converter.

While the Dyna Cloud L420 appears to be an intriguing device, it is unlikely to receive a release in the United States. The previous administration severely sanctioned the firm, limiting its access to American companies’ software and hardware. As a result, the Dyna Cloud L420 [officially] supports only Huawei’s own Kirin OS (KOS) and Unity OS (UOS). There’s also a chance that the laptop will get an update to Huawei’s HarmonyOS in the future.

The Dyna Cloud L420 is the successor to Huawei’s first laptop, the Qingyun L410, which included the Kirin 990 Arm SoC. However, there is no information on Huawei’s latest offering’s pricing or availability.
