HP Omen 17 Gaming Laptop to feature Alder Lake-HX CPUs with up to 16-Cores

On its main website, HP has advertised its upcoming Omen 17 2022 laptop with an Intel Alder Lake-HX Core i9-12900HX CPU. However, this appears to be odd, as the product is now unavailable and the product page contains some anomalies.

According to the new laptop listing on HP’s website, the new Omen 17 laptop will use the Core i9-12900HX processor, which can accelerate up to 5.0 GHz and has 16 cores and 24 threads. 188 (@momomo us on Twitter) was the one who brought this to my attention.

HP isn’t the first manufacturer to announce that the Intel HX processor series will include more than 14 cores. Gigabyte promoted the AORUS 17X laptop a few days before HP set up the page for viewing, and Dell unveiled its 16-core Precision series for later this quarter. They did not provide any other information, such as the number of cores, therefore we may use HP’s listing as the official core count for the new Alder Lake mobile chipset family.

The Omen 17 is a high-end gaming laptop with DDR5-4800 RAM and a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 16GB GPU

HP’s powerful laptop features a 1080p 144Hz display. The GPU on which the NVIDIA card is based is the GA103. Individually, Intel’s Core i9-12900HX CPU has eight Performance and Efficient Cores. The six Performance and eight Efficient cores are holding back the previously published 12th Gen Core H and P-Series laptop processors, which were released earlier this year in January.

Intel is preparing to release a 16-core processor series developed particularly for laptops, which no other company has been able to achieve. It will now be possible to purchase a computer with a more powerful Ryzen 9 5950X processor, but options will be limited unless the customer opts for a desktop machine instead.

Regardless, subsequent attempts to introduce desktop CPUs for workstation systems have delivered with a full desktop socket, allowing consumers to choose between high-performance processors as long as they were prepared to adhere to 65W.
