How to Install the iOS 18 Public Beta: Features and More

The non-developers got a chance to taste the upcoming operating systems today as Apple released the first public betas for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, and tvOS 18. For compatible iPhones, iOS 18 brings many customizable home screen options, a new control center, native RCS messaging support, a redesigned photo, iPhone-to-Mac screen mirroring, and much more. In the upcoming iPhone 16 series, these all were announced to be released in September.

How to Install iOS 18 Public Beta

iPhone users can install the iOS 18 public beta by opening the Settings app > General > Software Update > Beta Updates, and selecting the “iOS 18 Public Beta”. Tap “Download and Install’. Alternatively, users can visit the Apple Beta Software Program page, sign in with their Apple ID, and follow the instructions to download the beta. Feedback can be submitted directly to Apple using the Feedback Assistant app.

Important Considerations

The new operating system betas are in the public beta stage and thus may contain bugs. Do not install them on your primary devices. Those planning on trying this out should certainly back up their data before going ahead and make sure that the battery thing is well-charged for the duration of the installation.

What’s New in iOS 18?

The revision will now put an RCS messaging API in the Messages app, home screen personalization with greater liberty for placing icons and widgets, an overhauled Photos app layout & structure as well third-party controls support within Control Center-dark mode options extending to app icons. On iPadOS 18, Apple is also bringing a native Calculator app to the iPads.

The iOS 18 public beta does not have AI-based Intelligence features, which are expected to arrive by the release date. They will be limited to iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the most recent Macs and iPads.

Some of the features found in watchOS 11 include rest days, Live activities and Apple’s Vitals app. macOS Sequoia beta enables iPhone screen mirroring on Mac and introduces dedicated password apps. In the tvOS 18 beta, we can also have the Apple TV Plus content’s new InSight included like Amazon X-Ray.
