After almost a decade of falling short of the Scottish Premiership title, Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are the odds on favourites to win the league title this year. While the team were also favoured to break Celtic’s streak last season, a massive drop in form prevented them from capitalising on their lead.
This season, though, the Gers have been in tremendous form. They currently sit on top of the Scottish Premiership table, with 38 points from 14 games. They have only dropped 4 points this season, coming off of two draws against Livingston and Hibernian.
The closest to the Glasgow Rangers in terms of points on the table are Old Firm rivals Celtic with 29 points from 12 games. The pressure is on the reigning champions, as they already lost the first big match against Rangers at home.
Despite being well past the halfway mark of the season, the Light Blues are unbeaten in the League. The most ridiculous stat, however, is the fact that they have only conceded 3 goals in all of those games played. Of those, 2 were against Hibernian, in their 2-2 draw away from home, and 1 against Motherwell in their 5-1 victory.Â
The reformed defense has been key to the Rangers’ success so far, and they will be hoping to see out the rest of the season the same way. To win the title for the first time in ten years, stopping Celtic from making it 10 in a row, and doing so unbeaten throughout the season will surely make Steven Gerrard a legend at the Ibrox.Â
Right-back James Tavernier has been the man in form for the Gers, with his 8 goals putting him at the top of the league’s scoring charts alongside Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson. Tavernier claims the spot for the highest goal contributions, with 14, this season all for himself.
With only 8 games to go till the end of the season for Steven Gerrard’s side, the former Liverpool captain will be cautious about not letting his team be carried away by their recent success, and be focused on the rest of the games.Â
