Julian Alvarez recently completed his transfer to Atletico Madrid from Manchester City. The Argentine will be wearing the number 19 shirt at his new club, just as he did at City.
He is the second new striker to join the club this summer, after Atletico signed Alexander Sorloth from Villarreal to strengthen their attack. However, the deal for Alvarez cost them more than double the amount for the Norwegian.
How much did Atletico Madrid pay for Julian Alvarez?
Diego Simeone: "All of Julián Álvarez's characteristics align with Atlético Madrid's DNA. He has earned an important place, and hopefully, we can build a team that can benefit from his qualities. Alvarez is one of the most expensive signings in the history of Atletico Madrid, having joined them for a total fee worth £82 million. The fee includes a fixed component worth £64 million and add-ons that could go up to £18 million.
To be more specific, he is the second most expensive player in the club’s history after Joao Felix, who cost Atletico over £100 million.
However, the 24-year-old has been incredible for City and has won trophies with Argentina as well. He has shown his versatility in the Premier League by playing as a striker, as well as behind the number 9, and out wide. As a result, he could prove to be a game-changing addition to the squad ahead of the new season.
How long is Julian Alvarez’ contract?
Till June 2030
