IPL Player Earn Per Match : How Much Does an IPL Player Earn Per Match? Breaking Down the Numbers!

Match Fee: The Foundation of IPL Earnings

In a landmark decision, the BCCI announced a match fee of INR 7.5 lakh per game for all players in the playing XI and even the impact substitutes. This fee is entirely separate from the players’ annual contracted amount, making it a substantial bonus for every appearance on the field.

For a full season of 14 league matches, this alone translates to INR 1.05 crore, marking a new era of financial rewards for IPL cricketers.

Post-Match Awards: A Lucrative Bonus

The rewards don’t stop at the match fee. Players have the opportunity to bag post-match awards that come with hefty cash prizes. In IPL 2024, as many as six awards were distributed after each game, with each carrying a prize of INR 1 lakh.

If a player manages to win two awards in a match, they can earn an additional INR 2 lakh, taking their per-match earnings to INR 10 lakh.

Season-Wide Earnings: A Quick Calculation

Here’s a breakdown of potential earnings for a player who performs consistently throughout the league stage:

  • Match Fee for 14 Games: INR 1.05 crore
  • Two Awards per Game (Average): INR 28 lakh (INR 2 lakh x 14 matches)
  • Total Earnings (Excluding Contract): INR 1.33 crore

This amount is independent of the player’s pre-signed IPL contract, making their overall compensation even more lucrative.

A Historic Move by the BCCI

Jay Shah’s announcement reflects the BCCI’s commitment to rewarding players for their performances and ensuring financial stability. As Shah stated on X (formerly Twitter):

“In a historic move to celebrate consistency and champion outstanding performances in the #IPL, we are thrilled to introduce a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per game for our cricketers!”

With franchises collectively allocating INR 12.60 crore as match fees for the season, this structure sets a new benchmark in cricket earnings.

How IPL Stacks Up Against Other Cricket Formats

The IPL match fee is now significantly higher than the daily earnings of First-Class cricketers in India. For example, players in Ranji Trophy matches earn between INR 40,000 and INR 60,000 per day. With a match fee of INR 7.5 lakh per game, IPL players are earning more in one match than many domestic players earn across multiple games.

With this revamped fee structure, the IPL continues to solidify its reputation as the world’s most lucrative cricket league. For players, each match now represents not only an opportunity to showcase their skills but also to earn big. Between match fees, post match awards, and their IPL contracts, players stand to gain immensely.

For cricket enthusiasts, this financial evolution adds another layer of excitement to the game, proving that the IPL is not just about runs and wickets, it’s also about redefining success in modern sports.
