India’s recent test victory against Bangladesh by 2-0 increased their PCT percentage (58.93) and they’re in the second position in the WTC standings just after Australia. Australia is in the first position with a PCT of 76.92.

With the win against Bangladesh, the Indian team has a very good chance of qualifying for the World Test Championship finale. Next, the team will face the No.1 team in January in a four-match Test series that will impact their position highly. South Africa, which is in the third position with a PCT percent of 53.33 and is ready to take on the West Indies at home.

Sri Lanka which was previously at the No.3 position has minimal chances of making it to the finale. Their current PCT percent is 53.33 and they will face New Zealand in a two-match series.

India’s chances of qualifying for the WTC finale depend on the result of the current test between Australia-South Africa three-match Test series and the remaining test series that South Africa has to play. the Aussies defeated West Indies 2-0 and South Africa at the first home test.

  1. If India defeats Australia 4-0, their PCT will be 68.05. SA has no chance of qualifying, even if they win all their remaining matches.
  2. Assuming India beats Australia at 3-0, they will finish with a PCT of 68.05 and in this case, South Africa can qualify for the finale only if they win all the remaining four matches, they’ll end with a PCT of 66.66.
  3. In the third case, if India wins against Australia by 3-1, they will finish with a PCT of 62.5 and SA has the chance of qualifying to the finale only if they win the remaining four matches.

In the last WTC, Virat Kohli and Co. reached the finale but unfortunately lost against New Zealand. To reach the finale, they’ll have to defeat Australia which is a very strong team. Looking at the positive side, they defeated Australia in the last three test series.
