The newly dropped teaser wastes zero time. It opens with Ewan Mitchell’s Aemond Targaryen firmly seated on the Iron Throne — the consequence of Aegon Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) abdicating his claim. Aegon himself grimly declares: “The king has abdicated the throne,” signalling a brutal new chapter in the Targaryen civil war.

The teaser also spotlights the pivotal **Battle of the Gullet**, where Rhaenyra’s son Jace (Jacaerys Velaryon) takes to the skies on a dragon against House Velaryon. Rhaenyra herself continues to build her aerial army — flame by flame, beast by beast.

The message is unmistakable: nobody wins when dragons go to war.

## Returning & New Cast for Season 3

## Why June 2026 Is a Historic Moment for the Franchise

Here’s something remarkable: *House of the Dragon* Season 3 and *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* (set 90 years before *Game of Thrones*) will both air **in the same calendar year** — a first for the franchise. Two Westerosi timelines, one massive year for fans.

[House of the Dragon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_the_Dragon) first premiered in 2022 and quickly became one of HBO’s most-watched series ever. Season 3 looks set to push that legacy even further.
