## What’s the Story?

A giant T-Rex threatens Hot Wheels City, and Coop and his friends race to the rescue. Dinosaurs have been in this world before. The Ultimate T-Rex Transporter, a car-munching toy beast from season 1, became one of the biggest toys in the [Hot Wheels](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_Wheels) line, so this return feels natural.

## Why It’s Not a Netflix Original?

All three seasons carried the Original badge, but this special doesn’t. Netflix is getting it through a non-exclusive license from Mattel. Mattel did the same with *Thomas & Friends: Railway Stories – Really Helpful Engines*, which reached Netflix on September 30. So don’t be surprised if this special turns up on other platforms too.

## Is Season 4 Happening?

Probably not. Netflix released three seasons in total, which adds up to 20 episodes, and each one holds two short stories. Head writer Jordan Gershowitz lists the show as a 40 x 11-minute order, which matches that count exactly, so the original order looks complete. Season 3 also wrapped up the Cruise and Professor Rearview storyline.

Gershowitz also lists an unannounced 44-minute special based on a Mattel property. It isn’t confirmed to be this one, but the timing fits.

## A Surprising Ending for a Big Hit

The show was no flop. Season 1 spent four weeks in Netflix’s global top 10s with 46.6 million hours watched. Across Netflix’s engagement reports, the series has gathered 314.9 million viewing hours. It comes from developers Rob David, Melanie Shannon and Gershowitz, with music by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.
